The International CLIVAR C20C+ Detection and Attribution Project has reached a milestone, with monthly data and daily data from some commonly-used variables now published from all the core simulations of two climate models: CAM5.1-1degree (contributed by CASCADE), and MIROC5 (contributed by the Japanese MIROC consortium). Publication of additional daily data continues, and contributions from additional climate models are expected in the next few months. The C20C+ D&A Project, co-ordinated by CASCADE, is generating a large number of simulations of climate models in order to understand the difference in behaviour of extreme weather under the climate conditions that we have experienced versus their behaviour in conditions that might have been experienced had human activities not interfered with the climate system.
The Calibrated and Systematic Characterization, Attribution, and Detection of Extremes (CASCADE) project advances the Nation’s ability to identify and project climate extremes and how they are impacted by environmental drivers.
